Alumni Spotlight # 25: Suzanna Tornroth

Looking back at her bachelor degree, Suzanna Törnroth claims that: “BIDS is a utopian environment where the majority of people are open-minded, aware of the world and curious.
She is half Swedish, half Singaporean and grew up in Singapore and moved to Lund when she was 19 to start the BIDS program at Lund University; an act which she claims to be the best decision of her life. “Cliché, but true,” as she expresses in an interview about her experience with BIDS.

Alumni Spotlight #23 Klara Lindvall

klaralindvallRead about Klara Lindvall, who did an interesting Minor Field Study in Turkey, studying local Turkish migration management in relation to the EU external border and migration regime. Klara recommends everyone who considers it to dare go on an MFS as it challenged her and she gained a lot from it. Moreover, she expresses how important it is to try different things and not settle straight away.

Astrid

Astrid Fabrin tells that after her graduation from BIDS in 2015, she was very confused about the endless options she could potentially pursue. She decided to travel for a while, and is now about to finish another bachelor degree in Social Anthropology. During BIDS, she majored in Human Geography and conducted minor field studies in Kenya.  Astrid encourages future graduates to “find some work that actually helps people!”

Growing up in Denmark made Adriana want to study in an international environment, which led her to study the BIDS program. In 2014, she finished with a major in Political Science.

Alumni Spotlight #13 Anders Magnusson

Anders MagnussonGraduating in 2015, Anders Magnusson was looking back on an iridescent BIDS career. He majored in Human Geography and pursued MFS in Kenya, to now continue his studies at London School of Economics. Grown up in Stockholm, Anders always felt a “passion for travelling and exploring new places and cultures” and has connections to several countries outside Scandinavia. During BIDS he was engaged as both class and student representative and initiated various extra-academic activities. Anders encourages BIDSters to “[get] active, meet as many people as you can, try to develop your ideas into something real and don’t give up just because someone tells you that it’s not doable.”

After double-majoring in political science and economic history, managing two internships during BIDS, and studying one year on a master-level, Eva Theil found her way of making a difference in the world to be teaching. Eva is now enrolled to become a primary school teacher, but has still development-related issues close to her heart. In her interview Eva reveals many inspiring tips for current BIDS-students.

Alumni Spotlight #9 Sophia Djane

sphia.bidsSophia Djane is a BIDS Graduate of 2012 with a Political Science major. Sophia was born and raised in Lund, though she has also spent longer periods in Accra and London. Currently she works for IM (Individuell Människohjälp) in Lund, and is involved in a  local movement called Tillsammans för Lund (Together for Lund). If currents BIDSters have questions regarding exchange studies (in Africa), Sophia encourages them to contact her. 🙂
