Alumni Spotlight #26 Olle Hammar
Read about Olle Hammar, who graduated in 2012 with a major in Political Science. Before enrolling in the BIDS programme, Olle studied at the Business and Economics Department – He shares how this has given him broader knowledge in terms of research, as he is now doing his PhD concerning development economics and global inequality.
Alumni Spotlight # 25: Suzanna Tornroth
Looking back at her bachelor degree, Suzanna Törnroth claims that: “BIDS is a utopian environment where the majority of people are open-minded, aware of the world and curious.”
She is half Swedish, half Singaporean and grew up in Singapore and moved to Lund when she was 19 to start the BIDS program at Lund University; an act which she claims to be the best decision of her life. “Cliché, but true,” as she expresses in an interview about her experience with BIDS.
Alumni Spotlight #24 Natasha Wrang
Natasha from Sweden and Taiwan, who describes herself as a “menstrual health enthusiast”, is right now working on her Master’s thesis while trying to plan her next adventure. Natasha finished her bachelor in 2012, making her a part of the very first BIDS-class to graduate. She agreed on sharing some of her experiences with the programme, which might inspire other students to be adventurous; “You can do so much by just contacting interesting organisations”.
Alumni Spotlight #23 Klara Lindvall
Read about Klara Lindvall, who did an interesting Minor Field Study in Turkey, studying local Turkish migration management in relation to the EU external border and migration regime. Klara recommends everyone who considers it to dare go on an MFS as it challenged her and she gained a lot from it. Moreover, she expresses how important it is to try different things and not settle straight away.
Spotlight Special II: Karin and Andreas report from the University of Ghana
This week Andreas and Karin from the BIDS class of 2017 talk about their exchange semester at the University of Ghana in Accra. They write about the application process as free movers and how they connect the reality of Ghanaian development they witness every day to their class room teachings. So far, Karin and Andreas can “nothing but warmly recommend future students to go“.
Alumni Spotlight #22: Frederik Carl Felding
Growing up with a sister working for UNHCR, Frederik was early introduced to the concept of international negotiations. He is now working for the Danish Ministry of Health in the Unit of International Corporation.
I met up with him in a café in Copenhagen to learn about his experiences during and after BIDS and how he ended up working for a ministry.
Alumni spotlight #21 Johan Andersen
Read about Johan Andersen who graduated from the BIDS programme in 2015 with a major in sociology. Johan has now decided to further study the field of sociology within his current Master studies in Nationalism Studies at Central European University (CEU) in Budapest.
During the 6th semester of the BIDS programme Johan did an interesting internship that included country specific academic writing assignments, which allowed him to use skills gained from the BIDS programme.
